Paleo Mash Up
It seems like food in this house is always being switched up. It started way back when Bella was 3 or 4 the doctor recommend she try gluten free and dairy free diet to see if that *TMI Beware* she would finally poop solid. Well we tried that for a few weeks and it restarted her body and she was finally able to do the #2 properly... We went back to eating like we did before and she didn't have any issue after that. Then with Kate being diagnosed Celiac and having to switch our family over to gluten free for the health of her stomach. But since we switched to that Scott has been having trouble with his stomach agreeing with the grain alternatives. He has weird burping and stomach noises after eating that stuff. There is a lot of alternative flours and starches to try but seriously how many jars of that do i have in my fridge taking up so much space? My vitacost order for all the flours and starches i need to bake and cook with is crazy and adds up quick.
Like i said before Scott has been loving My Diet is Better Then Yours show and the wild diet plan is his favorite. Its very similar but not the same as a paleo diet. I thought it would be a good idea to try doing a mash up of those two plans and see if that helps his stomach. We are one week in and the complaining is gone. I have found this fun app called MyPaleoPal. Very similar to MyFitnessPal. The part i am loving the most is that you don't count calories and you snap a picture of what your eating throughout the day. It's nice have a visual of what you eat rather then words. You also get to see what everyone else is eating throughout the day and get inspired by others. We are trying not to eat dairy, and cutting the sugar down that is in products or food, no process food which we normally don't eat. The flours we are using is almond flour and coconut flour, and the starch is tapioca flour. I am still making bread for Kate that i have been making for many months because she loves her pb+J for lunches. I also researched that it can help with my scleroderma and not having carbs and eating foods with anti-inflammatory properties will help. I will do anything to not have my flare ups!
Here are a few meals ideas that i would have
Breakfast Eggs and bacon and fruit
Mushroom cap with a egg and bacon in it
Lunch Avocado with canned tuna and veggies on top
Salad with grilled chicken and fruit and nuts
Dinner chicken steam veggie or a salad
Ground turkey Meatloaf and sweet potatoes
Snacks almonds, chia pudding, fruit and some dark chocolate
Those are just a few ideas. I seriously craved sugar.... By the time i put henry down for a nap and had lunch i was like i need a cookie or a sugary baked good. Since switching it out with a little piece of dark chocolate and nuts and fruit/veggies, i have not had those cravings like i did before. It also has given us more energy which is always nice when your chasing kids around. Scott did buy a bag of Chicago mix popcorn from costco and it is sitting up in our room so the kids don't eat it up in one sitting and i have walked past thinking about it. It's not like my sugar tooth is gone but it's not like it was. I think it also helps that we really don't eat out much, if i had to go to a restaurant and try to eat like i do at home i think that would be a challenge.
I also have to toot my own horn... I have not had a donut the month of January.!!!! No joke! That is something i look forward to on Saturdays and i have not caved.
I enjoy trying new food plans and taking a little piece of that and little piece from another and making it fit our family. The kids still drink milk and if they want some GF pasta they will cook some up with there dinner along what we are already having. They also have cereal in the morning. I would love to get rid of that because the price is crazy for GF cereal and the choices are limited and lets be honest cereal doesn't fill you up it leaves you hungry 30 min. later.
