Surviving Kindergarten
Okay the day has come and I think we are ready to take the next step. For a 5 year old its Kindergarten, and if your a mom it's control. Bella was so excited for this day she can barely contain it. She decided to go to bed in her school clothes because she was so excited to wear them to school. She woke up early and ran out and yelled "It's time for school". Then ran to the bathroom to brush her teeth and comb her hair, then ran to get her backpack. I had to be the mom that gives the bad news. Well Bella school is not for another 6 more hours. I just wished she knew how to tell time, because she wore her backpack the whole morning and asked me every 5 minutes if it was time to go to the bus.
Since Dad couldn't be there for the bus stop pick up, I thought we should make a little movie to show us getting ready for the big day. Bella really loved that, she told dad how she got ready and what she is looking forward to, and what she was going to do on the bus, and how much she loves him. Then we snapped 862 photos of her excited little face.
By the time we finished it was time to buggy on down to the corner. I'm so glad the bus stop is on our corner.
The only other girl at the bus stop is a girl that Bella sits next to in her class. It works out good, because now they are instant bus buddies too. I think there going to be great friends. So we did a few more picture taking at the bus stop and couple with her new buddy.
Then the big yellow bus came around the block and it was the time to let my little girl go on a big bus all by herself. She got on the bus poised for a few more pictures and then ran to the back of the bus.
The moment the bus drove off Kate cried "I miss my Bella" and we walked home with tears in both of our eyes. It's hard to explain that feeling utill you have put a kid on the bus for the first time.
Kate cried herself asleep yelling for her Bella, and mom wondered what to do with herself. So i made a big dinner to celebrate our big day in taking a big step forward. I made homemade Chicken Corn Chowder and homemade Focaccia bread. When kate woke up she helped me finish the cooking.
Dad was able to be home for when the bus dropped her off. Which he was so thrilled about. Luckily we were out there early because the bus dropped them off 10 minutes earlier then when it said it would.
Kate ran to give her sister a hug and kiss. They really love being together. All Bella could talk about was the fun bus ride with her new friend.
She is one lucky girl because it turned out that her really good friend she meet at the YMCA is in her kindergarten class. I hope she keeps enjoying school and learns a whole bunch. Well all I can say is that we survived our first day of school. Were moving into a new normal.
