Happy Trails
The Haggenmiller Family which included Sherri and Al and Tim and Anna and Pup Ernie. Loaded up and headed out of Mora around 7:30 so we could make it to the campground in bayfield wi by 11:00. The ride up wasn't bad at all we did make about 2 bathroom stops which isn't to bad with a group of 8.Bayfield is a beautiful old town that is know for there apple orchards, and they have a few to pick from. Scott and i went here for a honeymoon, we stayed in a b& b right on Lake Superior. It's fun to drive around this town and look at all the old houses. The prices of these homes for sale in this area are crazy expensive because they can see lake superior. After we found our campground we set up camp and had lunch. Then loaded up the van and headed to town minus AL and Ernie they needed to rest there eyes for awhile. We checked out all the local shops and visited the marina. Sherri found the local fish shop and got some smoke fish. Who doesn't love smoke fish. They have a beautiful Marina, with so many sail boats and yachts. It fun to look at all the names on the boats. Anna and I decided to name our boats Peanut Butter and Jelly. I was the jelly. Or Marco Polo we have time to figure it out once we get the boat title. Scott always seems to find a bike shop with many old vintage bikes. This place was way to hilly to ride all the 6 bikes we brought with. And believe me we tried and didn't make it to far before we were walking our bikes up all the hills back to the campground. Oh well cant say we didn't try!I wish the wind wasn't as gusty as it was it was terrible. And the temps were pretty cold. I sure regret not packing more then one warm outfit for each of us. Thankfully they had a thrift store so i could get the kids a long sleeve shirt and pants. We ended up leaving our vacation with wind burn and sore ears from the intense wind. After exploring town all day we headed back to camp for dinner and relaxation. After dinner i washing up dishes and the girls were enjoying hot chocolate, Kate coco wasn't cooled and she spilled the coco down her chest, luckily it didn't burn her but she was red from it. 10 minutes later it down poured and we all spent the nite in the camper. Its nice to sleep when it's raining out, who needs a fan then!
Ain't she cute with her coco mustache. The next day we got up and went to town to show AL what he missed and make our way over to Madeline island. Bella and Kate found a little beach and made castles and Bella got even more creative by making snow angels in the sand. She was one messy girl when she left the beach. Well we missed the ferry so we went and had lunch and took naps. Catch the ferry in the afternoon.
There is a nice wooden walking path up the hill in town that we all were able to stretch our legs and get away from the wind down by the lake. We were here at the same spot when we came for our honeymoon. Kinda fun to repeat some of our paths as we did the first time.Just leaving the dock on the ferry heading to the Madeline island. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the island because the ferry is so slow. There were a good 10 cars or so on the boat traveling over to the island. Imagine if this was a daily trip everyday, makes you think twice about living there. While exploring we found the cemetery and this grave stone made me laugh. It says accidentally shot April as a mark of affection from his brother. Wow! That's all i can say....
We part took in a ice cream stop while Sherri Anna Tim and Ernie went on a walk. Kate didn't feel like doing anything she was tired and super cranky. They all had there moments but what do you expect with kids. Tuesday we packed up our camper and headed to ashland to stroll around the town. It has a beautiful old down town filled with murals on all the sides of the building. Sherri found a German choc. store and they make there own truffles that are to die for. Camping with 8 people are always a challenge and I'm so glad we are able to work thru all of that. Because it's so much fun to share and laugh about it later. I hate being away from home for some reason you eat food that you never eat at home and now i am paying for it. Time to hit the gym hard and make it right again. So glad to be home and in my own bed. Cant wait for next year to see where the old flying Dutchman heads off to next.
