Crayola Experience

This was on our summer bucket list and it got pushed back to the day before the first day of school. Such is life!!!!  I bought our tickets through groupon so we got a better price which is always the way to go.... Let me tell you my kids were so excited to go to this place and the people of crayola sure did a good job of advertising and finding ways to make sure my kids really wanted to go to this. The billboard next to our house really drove me crazy. Every time we drove by the kids were like "why have we not went yet?" Come on give me a break!

Ryan and Erinn happened to be down in the cities for the weekend and so we met up with them in the morning at the Mall of America before we went to Crayola. Henry is so funny he talks about uncle Ryan all the time and then when he see him he plays shy and wont talk or look at him for a good 20 min. He warmed up to them all by the time we parted ways. Silly boy.... The girls sure miss seeing there cousins, to bad we dont live closer by.

We stopped for a early lunch and headed over. I was nerveous about having a big crowd on a labor weekend but suprisly it was not. Yay!!!!

We checked in and they gave us each a plastic bag and two tokens. The first token was used at the first station where you are able to pick a crayon and then design the label. You get to pick your crayon name and make a symbol. Then you take the crayon and label and put it in the crayon label roller. I thought that was fun to see what everyone wanted to call there color crayon.

Next we went to the room where they had projector that played a video on the floor and you were able to jump around and chase bubbles, and the wall was full of black boards that lite up that we doodled all over. We played in that room for some time. Henry loved jumping and dancing all over.

The next station we went to was a photo booth that took our pictures and printed them out for us to color on. They have tables set up with crayons and markers and we plopped down and colored ourselves. I love coloring so of course we joined the kids.

The next room we went to was a room with a tv covering the whole wall and in the middle of the room was tons of ipads that you could color your own picture or use a template that you color in. After you finish your drawing your picture goes up on the tv wall and is able to interact with everyone elses pictures. Scott drew something from starwars and the guy working that area was impressed he had to take a picture of it for himself. Scott is excellent drawer!

The second coin was for the modeling clay machine. You get to pick a color of clay and they hae tables set out for you to roll designs out and play with it. We decided to just pick our color clay out and bring it home so they didnt get dried out or ruined.

The next station was hot wax. They melted crayons and had q tips in each color pot and you can dip it in the wax and draw pictures on paper with it. I have to say Henry's turned out color he just loaded it with tons of different colors and it was thick and very cool. I think he made like 4 different pictures. He liked the hands on activities for sure.

Next we went and made a puzzle using a picture we drew on paper. They have a machine where you can insert your picture and it will cut so it creates a puzzle.

We had 20 min. to kill before they started the live show of how crayons are made so we did some water coloring of scuba mask. They even had a dryer machine that you sent your wet paper through so you didnt have to walk around with wet papers in your bags.

The crayon show was fun to watch it reminded me of when mr. rogers went there on his show. Childhood memories!!! We left with a red crayon that they made during the show.

next was the dancing paper activity. We colored fairies and dinosaurs and then punched them out and assembled them with paper clips on there feet which then was placed on a stage that had a magnet in it. They put lights on and loud music and watched them dance around the little stage. The look on the kids faces was fun to watch. I have to admit i enjoyed it too.

They have a huge jungle gym in the center of the event so the kids can take a break and get there wiggle out. They also have concessions too. Henry was the only one that was like i want that. The girls were enjoying themselves to much to care.

Next to the jungle gym they have foot prints on the floor and screen on the wall and if you stand on the foot prints and look at the screen you can pretend paint is falling on you and when it moves it changes the flow of the paint. We were dancing and moving around like crazy fools. It was fun.

Then we grabbed some coloring sheets of girls and cars and designed them how we wanted them. We inserted them into a scanner and on the wall they came alive. The girls had a fashion runway show showing off our clothing designs and the guys had a race track with the cars they designed.

By the time we got here we are like 3.5 hours into this experience. Crazy how time flies. We were able to color a coloring page and then set it on this thing that scanned it and put it into a background so it look real. It was also able to send it to your email for later.

We had two more stations left and those took some time. First one was crayon spinning we were able to chose 2 crayons and then it melted it while you spinned the paper. They turned out really cool.

Next was crayon melting into a shape. They had a ox, ring. or a car to pick from.

And lastly we exited through a gift shop. Which we bought nothing. I already pre warned them about that. I was mentally exhausted and ready for coffee.  I have to say for 4 hours of being there, that place was fun and the melt downs really didnt happen. Even from other peoples kids. I think all the coloring and being creative really makes people mellow. It was worth every penny. It's not cheap but was a fun family day that we will remember for sure.

We finished off the day with a bowl of ice cream and ninja warrior before we laid out our first day of school clothes and went to bed. It was a fun summer but it was time for school to return.
